About My Photography

I'm a right-brain gal who was brought up in a left-brain household. I danced. I sketched. I played piano. I took surprisingly good photographs with a simple Kodak Instamatic camera. But intellect was king where I grew up, so I buried my artistic leanings and developed my brain.

Creativity has its own momentum though, and what began with me applying my facility with words to writing — covering the arts for The New York Times, Playbill and New York Magazine, and crafting promotional copy for Columbia Records, A&E Television and American Express — ultimately led me back towards visual art as well.

I’m still writing (including a novel that I only half-jokingly say I can’t finish until certain people have died). And I have my cameras — ones that are more sophisticated than my childhood Instamatic. But regardless of technology, they give me that wonderful feeling of being transported that I had when I was young. Knowledge plus abandon; what could be better?

As you browse my images, you'll notice a through-line: The mystery and beauty hiding behind the familiar. That's what moves me. That’s what I shoot. I hope it moves you too.

All of my images are archivally printed and matted, and are available in two sizes: 16”x20” and depending on the image, either 11”x14” or 12”x16”. When framing is requested, that too is archival. Some of my images originated as film; some digital. All are limited editions.

My work has been exhibited in San Francisco's City Hall, Fort Mason and the UCSF Women's Health Center, and is in private collections.
